Harriet was a historian and she authored eight books including her series "Houses of Derry". She was the 1966 Derry Citizen of the year.
She was a member of the Molly Reid Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)and served twice as Regent of the chapter 1911-1913 and 1970-1971,
